We are excited to invite you to participate in a unique and very special event celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 2 at from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Colonel Agustin A. and Gloria A. Ramirez Multipurpose Room of La Casa de Esperanza, Inc.
Last fall, La Casa received a grant from the Mary Nohl fund of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to create nursery rhyme murals to promote literacy and cultural exchange. To begin the project, students from La Casa’s after school program drew pictures of nursery rhymes that they would like permanently displayed on the walls of La Escuelita, the early childhood education program of La Casa. A selection committee, consisting of La Casa youth program participants, selected the finalists. Based on the drawings of the children, Ben Stark, local artist and La Casa employee painted the murals. The final step of this unique project is the unveiling.
Also, children of La Casa’s before and after school program and the Waukesha Civic Theater have been working hard preparing a short play about the significance of Cinco de Mayo that they will be performing during this event. The children’s play will be supported by a brief and always impressive performance of the Ballet Folklorico Mexico de los Hermanos Avila.
We hope you will be able to join us. The details of the event are as follows:
